About the musculoskeletal system
-Hello doc, I've got a terrible pain in my left ankle, I cannot walk, I could hardly reach your surgery.
-ok Do you feel the pain in the bone? How did it happen? You sprained your ankle ? Did you sprain your ankle or did you fall down somewhere, or did it happen suddenly, out of nowhere?
-Maybe I sprained my ankle a little bit when climbing down the stairs yesterday but I could keep going. A few hours later I was in pain and some swelling developped on the side of my ankle, and I could not walk; I hope it is not broken; do you think I need X ray examination ?
-Lie down flat on your back on the couch please and relax and let me examine the joint: yes it is swollen and sensitive, tender, achy ; it looks looser when I try to manipulate it: ok it is a sprained ankle; you 'd better have an X ray. People your age, I'm sorry to say, have fragile bones; let's be careful.
QUIZ
1
X ray means the patient needs to use Twitter to have X ray examination rapidly. NB one must know the way one has to pronounce X not like in french but like in exercice, example, ex voto, ex aequo.
2 When the ankle is just sprained there is no bone dammage, X ray examination won't show any fracture line. You just need to fix the ankle, and apply some contention, for some time. And get some rest.
3 The patient needs to stay in bed for 3 weeks.
