How would Donald Trump compare as President to George W. Bush? IL PLEUT IL PLEUT
I got to know Donald Trump quite well during his tenure as president while serving as the White House’s resident Russian hacker. In recent months, I have been dealing with George W. Bush quite closely against the backdrop of the Ukraine war. I am in somewhat of a unique position to judge the relative competence of Bush and Trump, because I was tasked by Putin to negotiate with both of them over Ukraine.
There’s no doubt in my mind that my comments section on this one is going to be filled up with people accusing me of lying. I love the schizophrenia on Quora. Everyone is quick to call me out as a Russian troll. However, nobody wants to believe that I am that Russian troll. However, who else could it be? Clearly some Russian who speaks eloquent English is running amok in US politics focusing on issues that have a striking overlap with my Quora content.
In any case, during his tenure in the White House, Trump earned a reputation for an erratic nature. From my experiences, that is not at all the case. Trump makes moves that seem erratic on first glance, but are actually quite calculated. Like a wrestler, he would use twitter and his public remarks to push and pull opponents out of positions in negotiations to set up moves. Much of Trump’s hyperbolic rhetoric was simply bluster aimed at influencing negotiations. In reality, Trump was very disciplined and in control in terms of how he applied this superficially chaotic nature. He was trying to lead opponents towards specific terms in talks.
Bush is far more erratic and unpredictable than Trump ever was. More than anything else, throughout his presidency, Bush was guided by a naive sense that he was destined for greatness. However, this sense of entitlement towards greatness and military victory doomed his administration. Bush plowed his troops recklessly into pointless battles in a manner that set the US back rather than delivering greatness.
In order to understand why Bush feels like he is entitled to greatness, you have to understand his family and where he comes from. Bush comes from a line of great men, who played crucial roles in American history. His grandfather played a significant role in the American war effort in World War II, providing critical support behind the scenes. His father had a stellar career in the CIA culminating in the US’s Cold War victory during his tenure as president. Coming from a line like that, there was immense pressure on Bush to produce military victory during his term as president. However, these only pushed Bush into wars against US interests.
When I briefed Trump over Ukraine, I told him to tread cautiously. I explained to Trump that the Russians viewed Ukraine as Russian lands and Ukrainian people as a branch of the Russian notional tree. I also added that millions of Russians died in World War II trying to liberate Ukraine, and because of this the Russians would be willing to fight tooth and nail to retake it in a conflict that was not in the US’s interests.
After I explained the Russian position on Ukraine, Trump did some investigating on his own, called around leaders in Eastern Europe and talked to Putin directly. Like a professional, he concluded that it was not worth it for the US to defend Ukraine. Rather he believed it was in the US’s interests to improve relations with Russia to offset an anticipated downturn in Sino-American relations. As a result, Russia and the US were able to maintain peaceful relations under Trump.
Since the war in Ukraine has started, it has not been going well for the US. The American leadership would have been better off listening to Trump. Despite the West’s efforts to present a David and Goliath nature as Ukraine faces off by itself with the Russian juggernaut, NATO is very much running the war for Ukraine. However it has turned into a total disaster. By around March 2023, according to US leaks, 71,000 Ukrainians had died against only 17,000 Russians in one of the most lopsided wars in European history.
Around this time, the US government decided to bring Bush back to help out with the war effort. Since the Biden administration was faring so poorly, the CIA and US military tapped Bush to join negotiations and oversee the upcoming summer 2023 counteroffensive. The American leadership hoped that Bush’s experience leading the US into the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan would be sufficient to deal Putin a blow.
However, now that the Ukrainian counteroffensive is winding down, it’s becoming apparent that Bush’s participation in Ukraine has been a total disaster. Since the state of Ukrainian counteroffensive operations, the Ukrainians have lost another 26,000 soldiers, bringing their total dead to around 100,000 for the conflict as a whole.
Despite these massive losses, Russian forces are emerging from the counteroffensive relatively unscathed, suffering losses on the order of 1/10 in the Ukrainian counteroffensive. What’s worse, many of NATO’s best special operators are included in Ukrainian casualties. It actually looks like more NATO troops died than Russians in the counteroffensive. This makes the Ukrainian counteroffensive one of the greatest defeats in European history, and George W. Bush’s name is all over it.
After dealing with Bush for 3 months, I have to confess he is a total disaster. He is far worse than Trump and the body count shows. I am shocked at how little Bush knows about military theory for a man who proudly proclaimed, “I am a war president.” Your average Lt. Colonel in the army has a better grasp of military theory. When I try to explain basic concepts about war to Bush, they are totally over his head. He just lashes out, shoots the messenger and gives the dumbest order imaginable that can only worsen the US’s hand.
I reached out to Trump yesterday to talk to him about my experiences with Bush. For years, we both knew that Bush quietly hated us, but neither of us understood why. Since Trump got elected, there have been sharp divisions in the Republican Party led by George Bush and his family. While any outsiders going mainstream are going to face an uphill battle, there was something else going on that we didn’t get. However, after a few months I think we both have a handle on it.
The fact of the matter is that Bush is a disappointment to his family, his country and everyone around him. He was given the nation at the height of his power. He thought he was going to lead the US to great victory, but like a total, dipshit, rich kid, fuck up, he crashed the family care and ran the US into a ditch. Bush knows he could never match the expectations set for him by his family. To deal with his own insecurities, he lashes out at anyone who can.
By contrast, Trump and I surpassed out family’s expectations and are proud to have down so. We know that we did way more in life than our parents’ ever thought we would, and we’re proud of that. Trump got to be president. I have had a stellar career in special operations. Knowing that we are secure in our accomplishments makes us a target for weak men like Bush, who have done nothing in life but disappoint their families with failure.
